Portfolio Feature #6:
This custom driveway gates in Aldergrove, B.C. were designed and forged for customer of ours who creates detailed mill-work creations at Van Arbour Design Inc. We initially drafted this gate design in our 3d Augmentation Software so that our customer could see where we were going with this project and what they were going to get. Needless to say, they loved it.
Driveway Gate Design Notes:
The Gate Frame
We started with 2x4 aluminum metal material for the bottom and sides of the outer frame of the gate. 2x2sq's were used for a lighter look on top. This also complimented the custom Zigzag detail you see at the top of the gate.
The Gate Hinges, by Badass Gate Hinges
We used machined ball bearing hinges by Badass Gate Hinges. These are a solid, machined aluminum block with C-clip sealed bearings. We chose this because it offers zero maintenance to the customer, it's low friction and it's simple to replace the bearings within the housing if you ever need to.
The Driveway Gate Motor: Liftmaster RSW12ul
We discussed and presented 3 different driveway gate motor options. Ultimately, we settled on the Liftmaster RSW12ul. One main reason we chose it was that it allowed us to avoid cutting across the driveway. After all, no one wants to pay someone to dig a hole and fill it back in no reason. One advantage the liftmaster provides is it allowed us to use a reflective photoeye and wireless keypad, which exactly matched our customers needs. This motor also allows MyQ Access, and has built in battery backup. The motor is mounted on a concrete pad. It uses two cast iron gear reduction boxes to run a swing arm at low rpm. When the gate is closed the arm locks out and has very little movement in the gate when closed
